First, let me be clear:  I am saddened by the death of Cory Monteith.  I feel for his family, for his friends, cast-mates, and of course his girlfriend, Lea Michelle. I think it’s sad any time a young person dies unnecessarily. And it’s especially sad when that person had so much talent, and touched so many.

So I’m not writing this because I think Cory Monteith didn’t deserve a tribute — I’m writing because I think he did.  And I don’t think he got one. (more…)

Monday night, I got to attend the star studded Broadway Karaoke fund raiser for Idina Menzel’s incredible charity, A Broader Way.  A Broader Way  – in the paraphrased words of Menzel’s husband Taye Diggs  takes- “Beautiful, smart, artistic, talented, Urban girls” and gives them a priceless experience:  10 days in the Berkshires at a summer camp filled with swimming and sports – oh, and dance, music, drama, and writing instruction from Menzel, Diggs, Drama Desk Award winning and Tony Nominated composer Jeanine Tesori and more. But more than that, it teaches girls about finding their authentic voice, being themselves, opening themselves up to new experiences, and being the best they can be.

Here, some pics from the night:

Ryan Reynolds and cute kid reporterRyan Reynolds had a real conversation with a real kid and the media world went bananas.

Early this week, I brought a pint-sized KidzVuz reporter to the Red Carpet for the premiere of Turbo.  Our ten year old first-timer interviewed Ryan Reynolds, Michelle Rodriguez, Luis Guzman, Ken Leong, race car stars Will Power, Ryan Hunter-Reay, and Ken Kanaan, and more.  As usual, the stars loved seeing a kid on the Red Carpet, and the other journalists were charmed, too.

But what came next surprised me.   There’s been a ton of coverage… of our coverage.  ABC News, People Magazine, eonline, Philly.com, Perez Hilton.  I even got a media request from Norway.  They all wrote – not about Ryan – but about Ryan and our reporter.  And it’s gotten me thinking. (more…)

And I met Eddie Redmayne, and Amanda Seyfried, and Samantha Barks, and even Sir Cameron Macintosh.

Well, maybe I didn’t meet them — I “met” them.  As in, I sat in a small audience of journalists and bloggers about forty of us), they sat on a slightly elevated platform, and I got to ask them some questions about their new mega-movie-musical, Les Miserables.

You know how you think movie stars are different from the rest of us?  How they somehow seem more special, more vibrant, more…more?  And you know how there’s a part of you that thinks “No, they’re just like regular people.”  Well that second part of you?  That part that thinks they’re just like everyone else?  That part is wrong. Kidz_Vuz 055The Sunday before Thanksgiving, KidzVuz hosted our fifth event — but by far our biggest one!  It was FashionTweenStas: Get your Girl On.  100 tween girls (yes, I am insane!) and their moms (less insane) in NYC  for a fashionable, fabulous, and fun day filled with all kind of great stuff for the girls to try, touch, experience, and learn.

Here’s what the girls did:

1. They got to Get Their Fashion On, by styling The Children’s Place mannequins with fabulous Holiday looks.  The folks from Children’s Place set up basic mannequins, and the girls got to use the huge selection of fabulous accessories and layers to give the mannequins their own special flair! Yes,  it’s true.  I went to the Justin Beiber concert, and all I got was the endless gratitude of my daughter.

That’s enough to make a Belieber out of me.

Home Made T-shirts Professing True Love!

On our way!! (Too bad the B train doesn’t go to the Barclay’s Center.)

At the concert. They’re Beliebers for sure!

Justin Beiber entered the concert on a pair of massive wings!
