Last month I was in Paris with my family. One afternoon, we met my husband’s childhood friend, who now lives there, and he gave us this advice: No matter where you live, or where you visit, act like you’re a tourist. Truth is, I am not a big fan of tourists. They walk too slowly, [...]

Wordless Wednesday: NYC vs Giverny, France
Posted in Travel, tagged Central Park, Central Park Photo, Giverny on June 22, 2011 | Leave a Comment »
Can you tell the difference? Well, OK. There is that buidling in the background of the NYC shot. But seriously. Can you believe that I took these pictures only a few days apart – one in Central Park and one at Monet’s house at Giverny? Beauty is everywhere!

So it’s day four in Paris, and the kids have finally, thoroughly, shocked me: their favorite thing so far was not the Eiffel Tower, not the hot chocolate at Angelina’s, not the patisseries or the bookinistes along the Seine. Nope. They’re favorite thing was visiting The Louvre. Really? Not that I’m not thrilled, proud, even. [...]

Tomorrow night I’m heading to Paris with my family. I’m sure it will be a great trip. My kids have never been to Europe. The weather is forecast to be fine. They’re grandparents will be with us, and are footing the bill. But I can’t help but feel a little sad about the trip, because [...]
Cherry Blossom Snow Drift

I took this this morning in Riverside Park. It was cold out there — but at least the cherry blossoms were blooming in full force. Even on the ground, they’re a beautiful reminder that Spring is here. Now if only the temperature would be springlike, too, we’d be good!

A New York Real (Estate) Story

Since so many of you seemed to like my story about life in NY from yesterday, I thought I’d share a little excerpt from a longer “creative non-fiction” (which means kinda sorta true) piece I’ve written called “Ways in Which Rich Women Are Different from You and Me.” See, many moons ago, my kids went [...]
New York: City of Extremes

The other day, I had one of those “it could only happen here” kind of days. It covered all ends of the NY spectrum: complicated, surprising, diverse, friendly, and scary…all at the same time. Kind of like New York itself. I mean, this isn’t a city for the faint of heart. You have to be [...]
From South Africa to Las Vegas: Not as Different as you’d think
Posted in Travel, tagged Las Vegas, South Africa on January 13, 2011 | 3 Comments »
Can you think of any two places more different than the bush of South Africa and the glitz of Las Vegas? Hollywood and The Vatican, maybe? Or Jersey Shore and the Hamptons? Nope, I’d say South Africa/Las Vegas wins. And those are exactly the two places I’ve been in the past two weeks. Let me [...]
